Through 40 years of film making I've worked on many and varied projects. One of the ways I've maintained my enthusiasm for the work I do is to make sure I work on projects that I care about, projects which "grab me". The Green Fire Islands project "grabs me". It's an opportunity to bring a varied group of remarkable talented people into the same arena at the same time and explore all sorts of possibilities. Though I work in film I've always appreciated the special talents that other artists bring to their arts. Over the years I've been able to work on a number of projects with various artists, writers, poets, painters, sculptors, dancers, musicians, and it's always an enlightening and enriching experience. I can see that the Green Fire Islands project will be an enlightening and enriching experience for all involved in the project and for audiences all over Aotearoa. A documentary of the events will allow an even wider audience to share the experience. It will provide insight into the two worlds of Celtic and Maori music and give audiences a chance to follow the musicians creative processes. Roll on February 2008. ... Alun Bollinger.
